what's the opposite of amnesia?

vinyl still works!

today is my paid holiday for memorial day as monday was my regular day off.
a little while ago i literally dusted off my turntable and dug out one of my boxes of vinyl. i think i have a total of four...and i think two are bootlegs and 12" singles of r.e.m. and a few of u2. r.e.m. and i had a hot thing going for a while...

anyway,i thought vinyl would sound horrible after listening to cds and even tapes for so long. not! sounds really good.

and the music is still good too! right now i'm listening to an album that i literally wore out in college...'amnesia' by the pousette-dart band. don't know how many people know about this band. i think they're somewhat well known regionally in new england or at least around boston. i discovered them one boring easter weekend in 1977,i think. yup, good memory. the lp says copyright 77. anyway, this is my second copy...it was a reissue. didn't have anything to do,so some friends and i decided to go see the band that was playing on campus even though we'd never heard of them. a couple of hours later,we were huge fans. they're kinda bluegrassy (banjo, yeah!) folky rock. mandolin too.

yup. in the spring of '77,i listened to these guys, and fleetwood mac's 'white album'...the one with best and original version of 'landslide' and that other song that i adored, the one with the lines 'have mercy baby on a poor girl like me/you see i'm fallin',fallin',fallin' at your feet/',and dan fogelberg's 'homefree',james taylor's 'sweet baby james' (steamroller!) and loggins and messina's greatest hits...'house at pooh corner' and 'angry eyes' and this long epic english folksy/ballady song that i loved.

yes, back in the dark ages. very very good music. still eminently listenable.

and now,i think i will do a load of laundry...
