would you get a saddle for this horseman of the apocalypse?
The most abiding theme of this collection is that Western religious traditions have suffered from taking their stories and symbols literally instead of metaphorically.
YES!!!!
this was on the amazon page describing a collection of essays by joseph campbell called -thou are that-. i'm going to hunt this down.
obviously i agree with this with great enthusiasm. i think this is so true. definitely of the bible. the bible confuses me no end, and i'm better off reading 'the bible for dummies' than the bible,or at least along with that. the thing is,though, that it's been interpreted so many different ways. ultimately,i generally follow my intuition, which i consider synonymous with my heart.
i definitely think the heart has the higher mind, though it's not always easy to discern the messages from the heart and those from the brain. at least for me. on the other hand, there just may be a way of knowing that just is indescribable. which is why i say i do follow my intuition/my heart some of the time. not so much on daily matters, though i wish i did,but sometimes on larger matters. sometimes i just KNOW,and i can't explain it. i wish i KNEW more often, but i think that KNOWING is inspiration...and the more one is open to the divine,to God,the more often it happens.
gee,i'm sounding very gnostic here. the tricky thing about the label 'gnostic' though,is that it's been used to describe people and movements that are very different from each other and sometimes diametrically different. one supposed gnostic belief i don't agree with is that this world is terrible and that God isn't in it.
maybe that's why the matrix movies both fascinate me and repulse me at the same time...
