neal stephenson

ah,finally,i found someone who describes how i feel about neal stephenson's writing...

in a comment i found,[livejournal.com profile] minnehaha wrote:

Read his books for the ride, not for the end. He puts together beautiful paragraphs, and the asides are the best part of one of his novels.

i feel similarly about tom robbins' writing, though i like neal a bit better.

i was so thrilled a couple of weeks ago when i found a hardcover copy of quicksilver in the bargain section and promptly snatched it up. i've only read part of it,when i borrowed it from the library, and i have yet to read the later two books in the baroque trilogy, nor have i finished reading cryptonimicron, but i love his stuff. i simply read it like i eat chocolate fudge...small amounts at a time, and savoring it intensely. he just puts words together and describes things in ways so different from anyone else. i have been such a reader over the years that i'm extremely particular about how things are written.
