it aint over til its over part 1

i'm actually almost done reading an ENTIRE book. it's by barbara sher and called -it's only too late if you don't start now:how to create your second life after forty- and it's been very inspiring to me.

i almost never do exercises in books, and i'm turned off by most books that have lots of exercises. this book has just a few,and i think i may have done one that i've already forgotten but i was intrigued to do one today.

you write:

the highlights of my life according to me

sounded fun,so i did it.
i'm going to copy it here and it probably won't be interesting to anyone but myself but that's never stopped me before! one thing i noted is that there were very few things past the age of thirty.well,my thirties weren't too great. the forties have been better in some ways, have also been extremely difficult. but it's not over yet...

my list:
the uncle gus show at age 5
[the only time i was on tv and i was determined i wouldn't giggle when i got introduced...every kid on the show got introduced.i can't remember if i giggled, but i probably did!]

playing 'time tunnel' in the schoolyard

my best friend bernie and playacting 'dark shadows' scenarios. also, writing horse stories that she would illustrate.

seeing 'mary poppins' and 'sound of music'

getting my 'bonanza' toy wagon on christmas

getting my reel-to-reel tape recorder and doing little 'radio shows' with my sister

fireworks!

playing in the cold cold ocean

starting first grade

learning to read! yeehaa!

the town library

starting fifth grade (new school)

getting a transistor radio (it was very small and had a little earpiece to listen to it privately...i used to hide it under my pillow at night and hope i didn't get caught. one of my earliest memories is hearing the rolling stones 'satisfaction' and not knowing what the hell they were going on about...i was only ten or so.)

making a new circle of friends in sixth grade

my boyfriend stevie who wrote love poems for me

the solar eclipse and kevin

discovering the beatles

love letters from tommy

starting high school

the day jeff walked me to class

valentine's day 1974

riding on the bus with ned

my friend candy's camp and canoeing on the pond

bob and fourth period study hall

reading tolkien's hobbit and lord of the rings and c.s.lewis's narnia and 'mere christianity'

volleyball and rikki don't lose that number...

(to be continued...and i havent' even gotten out of high school yet....have i cured your insomnia?)
