quiztime: political stereotype

i may have voted for him in the last election except that i was highly motivated to vote against the man who was later appointedpresident by the supreme court...so i voted for gore in an attempt to keep this bush from the presidency. ah,well.

Nader
Green - You believe that small economic units
should control the goods, and that the
government should be permissive of
"victimless crimes," respectful of
civil liberties and very strict towards big
business. You also believe in either a
socialist tax structure or more power to local
communities. You think that environmental
policies should be written into law. Your
historical role model is Ralf Nader.

Previously I was a Roosevelt Democrat and now it seems I'm a Debs Socialist, actually I think I'm somewhere between the two.

Image
Socialist - You believe the free market can be
beneficial, but that a large and powerful state
is necessary to redistribute the wealth of the
top classes to those of the bottom. You also
think that basic utilities and trasportation
should be publicly owned. Your historical role
model is Eugene Debs.

Those are intriguing principles... I don't like the corporation-based politics that have taken over the world, and I think that ultimately more community-based economies are the only way to keep from making the planet uninhabitable. I don't like the punitive system that's in place either. There was an interesting article in the NY Times about the penal system in Finland, and it was refreshing to read that something different was being tried. I've often thought that for so many people hating religion for the idea of Hell there are an awful lot of people in favor of creating a version of it here.

I spent a lot of thought last election about the whole thing about not voting for who one really wants because of the whole "anyone but him"... trying to think of how to break that cycle. I don't like the Two-Party system and I think it's a system that allows there to be Real Powerbrokers making sure not much of consequence changes for the better no matter who gets in. And the major parties become complacent because people eventually get sick of the competitino and vote for the other party. I don't like that no matter how hard the minor parties try, they get subverted at the last because the major parties have turned it into an Either-Or ideological choice. I was thinking of other voting strategies...
