late this afternoon, after coming home from a sunday library/gas station/natural foods store/supermarket road trip(the latter three which were actually pleasant today due to the superb weather),i started on doing some vacuuming. y'know, the ambition to clean i mentioned earlier. well, first i had to figure out how to put a new bag in,but that was easy. so i did a bit of vacuuming, and then decided i might spend a few minutes (hahahahaha...) balancing my checkbook with my latest bank statement.

well, after almost three hours of balancing hell,i am still off by about twenty bucks, but at least it's in my favor. the combination of simply skipping the monthly balancing along with some occasional balancing that turned out to be faulty, and numerous errors which made me wonder how good my subtraction is (and then when i actually thought about it,i actually find that whole 'borrowing' thing to be perplexing as it just gets worse the more i focus on it. math was never a strength, but it's scary to think of basic skills degenerating like that! eek. for some reason,i find dividing easier than subtraction. ugh.) adds up,ha ha,to hours of frustration. i sure didn't take after my accountant dad!

i know the banks used to be able to figure it out for you,but they also charge by the hour,so i figured i'd do it myself. well, maybe i will learn not to skip the monthly balancing in the future. and it bothers me not to have figured out the last twenty bucks. plus, part of the problem is a check that was never cashed, which i want to verify with the bank. i hope they have a system where they list checks cleared in check number order, but that is probably asking for too much. i don't even write that many checks! on the plus side,i have five hundred more dollars than i thought i had, which will be helpful because i need new glasses. they usually cost me over two hundred dollars, and i'll probably need bifocals this time, which will probably cost even more.and there are tons of things i need.
