me and a skunk

i had a horrible experience tonight that rather depressed me. it's going to sound kind of funny, but i'm not laughing at the moment.
ugh.

it was raining really hard tonight when i was driving home. as it's around midnight,it's dark. i kept hitting potholes i usually avoid because i couldn't see 'em. and there's this one place in the road where they've patched something but there's a sharp edge that hasn't been smoothed over. i hit that hard and i worry about my tires a lot. i just worry a lot,but i worry about my car a lot!

but that wasn't even the worst of it.
i'm driving along, can't see too well. it's even kind of hard to see the lines on nights like this,so i drive a little slower and am more careful. but i guess not careful enough. it was too late to avoid it,but i saw what i thought was a clump of something...like a branch that had fallen with some leaves blowing in the wind...though this isn't likely on the commercial strip i'm driving on...anyway,damn,i hit whatever it is and then there's this HORRIBLE smell from the bowels of hell. i have to assume that wasn't leaves blowing in the wind, but a tail. and it was/is so awful, that smell. and i also felt badly because i really really hate killing a wild animal accidentally. i squashed a frog one time and felt awful. last week i managed to avoid a turtle crossing the road, and only hoped it would make it across the road with other cars coming along. at the rate it was going,it would probably take an hour to get across.

i just hope that skunk died quickly. and i've never smelt anything so awful in my life. i at first thought maybe i'd lost some fluid in my car and it was a car fluid smell...i do wonder if i did get some sort of leak, but i think it was mostly the tires that hit it. so i got home and got out of the car and i can smell it near my front tire but not the back tire.thankfully,i had my window rolled up because it was cool and raining.

BUT i could swear my clothes have that smell now. or maybe it's just stuck in my nostrils; i don't know.

and does this mean my car is going to smell and gross everybody out? and will i smell from sitting in my car? and it's the middle of summer...i'm sure heat is going to really enhance the smell...i just hope i don't go to work or wherever and smell bad without knowing it.

yes,i am neurotic. i have little common sense and don't know what to expect from this situation.

it was an awful thing to feel that under my tire...

i ran over a squirrel recently and was unhappy about it. that is a horrible feeling. the smell of skunk is overwhelming, isn't it? it'll fade, but it might take a while. i'm sorry that happened to you.
