more and more often recently i'm finding that people's journals and even their comment pages take a really long time to load. i'm on a 52 kps or whatever it's called, dial-up and that seems fine for many things. i don't have much patience for graphics heavy pages and generally avoid them.

if i'm going to make a choice,i'll choose to read something that's simply presented but more complex in substance.

edit: i should have mentioned that i'm on webtv. so it doesn't work the same as a computer.

That'll be the images, I expect. LJers often use massive images. Try using Opera and turning images off, or increasing your cache size.

i appreciate the tips. i think i need to add a p.s. to the post. i'm on webtv and don't have those options. but thank you for your thoughtfulness!

*smiles* Is it the new journal style pages that are taking for ever... I can go back to the old comment page if it's better for your Dial up... Images take forever for me as well but the journals seem to work fine.

i guess i'm just showing my preference for content over bells and whistles in general.i can appreciate bells and whistles if they don't inconvenience me,but in this case they do. but i don't expect people to accommodate for me...so why did i write that? i don't know...i guess i just wanted to express that. thanks for the considerate offer. your journal hasn't been one of those though!

You could try filtering (an LJ feature) your friends page so that the more graphic heavy users are not on your default page.

actually,my friends page is fine. this situation arises,though,when i want to leave a comment and/or read more of someone's actual journal in addition to the current stuff on my friends page.

How long have you noticed this happening? Because I'm on dial up too (not webtv though) and I have had to wait for the pages to load when I want to comment. It doesn't make much sense because there aren't even heavy graphics on these pages. I thought it was interesting you described this problem that I seem to be having in the past week or so on LJ.

lj definitely has its slow times,even though i'm on the fast servers,but it's the ones with lots of colors and patterns etc that have been really really sloooooow for me lately. it's only recently that people's comments pages could be done in a fancy manner.

i hope i don't get left behind by livejournal! i've had a few problems since the upgrade around lj's birthday,and i wonder if i'll eventually not be able to use it at all with webtv,but we'll see.
