you're my favorite waste of time
my piles of cds are threatening to topple over after i purchased two this week (unprecedented these days and definitely not in the budget...) as well as the fact that my sister made me a cd and dropped it off this weekend.
last week i bought the soundtrack to amelie which i adore, and so does mom. in fact,i made her a copy and she kept saying it was beautiful, even though it's hard to understand her.
the other cd i bought was one by rasputina. the idea of a group of musicians playing cellos in a modern way appealed to me,so i took a reckless chance.one first listening,i don't like the singer's voice and was not all that impressed. i'll probably give it another chance and if i don't like it,give it away. very wasteful of me,but oh well. amelie at least proved to be a winning gamble.
i haven't listened to the cd that sara made for me yet because i wasn't in the mood for rock and roll earlier today.
right now i'm listening to syd straw. years ago i bought an album of hers because michael stipe of r.e.m. dueted with her on a song called 'string of pearls'. it's an absolutely gorgeous and wistful song. i wish it wasn't so sad. michael sounds especially twangy on the tune, and i love it.
next up will be marshall crenshaw's 'you're my favorite waste of time'. i always loved that song, and what an absolutely great title. if i called anyone that,it would be a great compliment. marshall is one of my archetypal (must be a modern archetype though...were any of the greek or roman gods geeky-looking?) favorites...nerdy looking with glasses, and tall and lanky aint bad either, though i've sometimes been fond of people who are a bit more portly (silent bob! hamish campbell in 'braveheart'!)
one of my favorite other types is the bearded redhead. i have a fondness for vikings. i dated one in high school. well,he was on the basketball team, our team name was vikings (i was on the girls basketball team,so i was a viking too...but i only sat on the bench.who cares,i got into the boys' games for free!) and he was finnish. though finns really aren't/weren't vikings. but that's why they named the mascot that...the finnish population! anyway,he was tall and blonde. i'm short and i used to have dark brown hair. now it's dark brown and silver, but his is a little silver too now!
next up is 'the best of bread'...i'm in a sappy mood. blame it on amelie.
