swooning over...
....guitars!
well,hey i get in less trouble that way! and no,it's not like i'm in love with the actual guitars,like their shape (hi mark! no,not you irish mark,but hello all the same! i'm referring to my canuck american friend mark,who has pretty much the same ethnic background as i do,but i call myself "french" ha.anyway,it was he who swooned when he found out about the "dangerous curves" exhibit being in boston.yes,it's about guitars.)
anyhoo,for me it's the sound.i just love the sound of the guitar on the version of 'brian wilson" that's on the barenaked ladies (yeah,them again) "gordon".(hey,did they get that idea from the replacements,who called one of their albums "tim" ? if i ever do an album,not bloody likely,i'd like to call it "levi".i've always liked that name.
anyway,back to my swooning...it's probably one of those gibson les paul's,or maybe a rickenbacker like r.e.m. mostly used in the early days (so did the beatles,i think!).
anyway,i know a little,but not a lot about that stuff.i'm just a mental dabbler.
yesterday i was listening to a mix tape i made in the 80's.i did tons and tons of mix tapes in the 80's,and i still listen to them.anyway,this one had three songs by america the band on it,and the guitars sound great on that.i especially like "Baby it's up to you' from the album 'holiday'.i considered buying more america music just to hear that sound,but i don't like the vocals all that much.i dont dislike them,they just don't really grab my ear like the voices of michael stipe (r.e.m.), jakob dylan (wallflowers),or stuart adamson (big country),to name three favorite vocalists.
never mind the harmonies of mccartney and lennon! and the harmonies of the guys in barenaked ladies,though i don't really know if it's two or three guys who do the harmonies in that band as i haven't listened long enough.
i'm listening to "wrap your arms around me" on 'gordon' right now.very very beautiful,especially the voices.
you see,i'm channeling my kundalini energy,
instead of chasing troublesome men who will only ruin my life.just kidding.i think.
