like wow man

does anyone remember soho's "hippie chick"? i just heard it on the radio and the only other place i ever heard it was in the indie record store i worked in on saturdays back in the late eighties. it's a cool dance tune...the kind of dance stuff like stone roses and ride. does anyone remember ride for that matter? they were my favorite of the stone rosesish types. oh,and i liked darling buds' crystal clear. very groovy.

got no flowers for your gun
no hippie chick
won't make love to change your mind
no hippie chick

I adore that song! It came out when I was in Northern Ireland and after I got over my initial preciousness about them stealing the riff from "how soon is now", I went out and got the single :)

I once heard an interview with Johnny Marr after the group broke up where he was asked to name his five favorite Smiths songs. He ended up naming four actual Smiths songs and "Hippychick."

As for Soho, I've got that album plus one of their other albums, and they have samples from other songs I vaguely recognize but can't name.

I even bought a couple of Soho cassette singles so I could hear the B-sides. Man, I wish I could still afford to buy singles just to hear one song!

I'm pretty sure its lifted although a quick search didn't turn up any writing credits. I mean, who could duplicate *that* riff?

:D
