(no subject)

who knows about hot water heaters? tonight mine made a loud rumbling noise for a few minutes.
do you know what that would be,if it's an emergency situation,or if it sounds like i need to call a plumber?

That is soooo weird!

I don't know, but my pilot went out in mine-it's gas-and I had no hot water yesterday. Which I discovered in the shower with my hair wet. I'd check to see if you have hot water, but that's a fairly new heater. Remember they got replaced a few years ago because they were all old and some people downstairs had theirs explode?

Yes, I got it relit. My landlord was astonished I did not have a key to the basement, where the hot water tank is as well as the circuit breakers. So I have one now. Yippee! Now I am ready for anything! :D Wanna move into my basement? J/K...Anyway, I have no idea what to tell you about the gosh durned water heater! If it does it again I'd call someone next week.

Being absolutely and utterly devoid of any mechanical inclination whatsoever, I would say call a plumber. But that's me.

...notice we BOTH used the subject "That is sooo weird" on each other's journals tonight? Mine in reference to your hot water heater and yours in reference to Ewan-isms...

Unrelated, or ...sadly related...I'm going to go see Dad tomorrow.

is it an older heater? If you're getting a rumbling noise but the w/heater is still working, its could be mineral deposits rolling around inside it. Ours is so old, it sounds like there's a crowd of boulders in there trying to get out. We have sulfur water here so its a higher level of mineral deposit too. Its not dangerous per se but it'll need replaced at some point.

hope this helps :)

It could also be air in the lines depending on the age. It's not an emergency but you'll probably want a plumber to look at it at some point.
