the state of my wardrobe
wardrobe? i wouldn't really call my clothes a wardrobe.
today i went to the discount warehouse place looking for inexpensive, practical basic clothing items. i wasn't really in the mood for shopping (historically,it hasn't been my favorite thing to do--except if we're talking about books, music or movies--then i looove it!) but i was in the mood to get out of the house and go for a little drive. i always seem to need something in the way of clothes. i wear out socks like nobody's business--i buy a lot of socks at the dollar store. i am rarely happy with whatever bra i currently own and the search for a good bra, especially in the rare and wonderful size of 34d-tmi,i know-is akin to the hunt for the holy grail.
i look for simple cotton pants in beige or black or blue,so they'll pretty much match anything. recently my favorite style of pants has been redesigned and no longer fit me as well. dang. the 10's are too snug and the 12's are falling off me.good thing it's fashionable to wear baggy clothes. (as if i care.)
i wear cotton turtlenecks in winter and polo shirts in summer. i don't bother buying jeans anymore, though i'm a long-time levis diehard, because they're too heavy and take up too much space in my little washing machine. which i am grateful to have in my apartment!
anyhow,i had no luck at the discount warehouse place,so i stopped at wal-mart,the evil empire,on the way home. i feel i should boycott wal-mart,but i don't know how much good it will do,since everyone else does. there was an interesting article in one of the business magazines-i think it was fast company-that talked about how bad wal-mart is for the economy in general, because of what they require from companies they buy from. it was kind of funny, because i mentioned it at christmas dinner, and my brother-in-law had just read the same article. we don't often read the same things. we used to joke that if our books were stored in the same attic, they'd be at war with each other!
and sadly, there is hardly any place else to shop around here, really. i also went to the free place at the church this week, and found a pair of pants and a turtleneck and a nice cloth coat to wear to my mother's funeral. the hours they are open are really awkward for me,so i usually go there when i'm on vacation! sometimes i give them a few dollars. this week i brought them a bag of stuff i wasn't using.
didn't find anything at wal-mart either. oh,well. i don't have to run around naked just yet. sorry to even put that image in your head! let me remedy that a bit. when i was a teenager, about 30 years ago (yikes!),i owned the teeniest bikini. i don't know what my parents were thinking to let me run around like that. at least i was in good shape, but really,i was practically naked. and my parents are pretty conservative. they're republicans. *cough* i guess that was just an anomaly of my teenage years...
