six quartets and a couple of quartermasters

We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.

today i was hoping to find the razor's edge by somerset maugham at the library. nope,no dice.

instead,these books chose me:

t.s. eliot:a life by peter ackroyd

doing battle:the making of a skeptic by paul fussell
from the jacket: he endured basic training, became a second lieutenant in the infantry,[in world war 2] and, leading his platoon into battle, was seriously wounded. when he recovered, he vowed never to take orders again. his newly subversive sensibility would color all his later years...
i read his boys' crusade, about world war 2,not too long ago and really liked it,though the actual subject matter of the book is rather mortifying,no pun intended (for once.)

the te of piglet by benjamin hoff. i've read the tao of pooh several times, and read this one once and didn't like it as well, but thought i'd give it another look. i like some of the chapter titles-'things as they are','things as they might be' and 'the tigger tendency'.
"it is hard to be brave,' said piglet, sniffing slightly,"when you're only a Very Small Animal."
rabbit, who had begun to write very busily, looked up and said:
"it is because you are a very small animal that you will be Useful in the adventure before us."

-a.a. milne, quoted in the front of the book.
i like to think that Neurotic Dancing Scholargeeks are Useful in some of life's adventures as well, not that i'm self-absorbed or anything...

walk in the light and twenty-three tales -leo tolstoy

portrait of hesse-bernard zeller

catch-22-joseph heller

writing all this here has been a wonderful way to put off starting laundry and taking trash out and doing dishes and brushing and flossing. funny,it seems that i was procrastinating to avoid doing those very same things yesterday...

Great list. No library should ever be without Razor's Edge.

Be brave, dear friend...

Yes, that happens more often than not, doesn't it!

Now to share my Winnie-the-Pooh card quote:

Picture Pooh and Piglet walking off into the sunset holding hands...
ooh that would make a great icon!

"Be brave, dear friend. You're stronger than you think..."
(And you can hold my hand any time you want.) :D

*runs off to find picture of Pooh and Piglet to turn into an icon*

i was just recently loaned the tao of pooh to read. :o) have had the attention span to dig into it yet though. i wanted to to ask if you ever got my email telling you the photo link didn't work for me? my yahoo mail and my outlook express have both been giving me fits. no rish to let me know. i just thought this would be a more reliable way of communicating!
hope you're doing ok.
