i wish everyday was paced like sunday

well,i think it's time for me to bid adieu to my netflix membership. i got to see seasons 2 and 3 of OZ.(i own season one). i quite enjoyed it,even though it can be quite depressing. the show is very well done; you get involved in the characters, which is what i like. there are still three more seasons,so perhaps sometime in the future they'll be released on dvd and i can see them. but anyway,i feel i'm spending too much time watching things. i also got 'les enfants de paradis' but it's boring me,so i'll probably send it back unwatched.

i like to watch things that inspire me,but it's very difficult to find those types of things. most movies and tv are time-wasters. fun time-wasters,yes,but time-wasters just the same.i don't want to waste all my scant free time.

what i've spent time watching in the last few months has been 'band of brothers' and 'OZ'. 'bob' is excellent. it's intense and can be sad,but it's not depressing like OZ because it's based on true events of world war 2,and fighting a war at least had some purpose (well,on the individual level---i wont' go into my opinions of why i think war in general is created for different purposes than what they appear--one explanation of that viewpoint is expressed in a book called 'saving private power',put out by soft skull press and i think now out-of-print.) whereas being in prison doesn't serve much positive purpose, only as prevention in some cases, but that whole issue is not so simple either. (there's a book called 'prison nation:the warehousing of the poor' which i haven't read yet but it looks like it's got some interesting viewpoints).

ANYHOW,when i come across anything which i feel is worth taking the time to watch, then i will. but i'm damned fussy. so i'm planning on going back to doing more reading.

went to the library today and i wanted to read something on latino culture, and there was pretty much nothing, even though i know how to use the library search(i hope so!) as well as having a really good familiarity of the dewey decimal organization. that's kind of surprising, especially since the local barnes and noble has TONS of books in spanish, and bookstores didn't used to have huge sections like that.
so i got a book of essays by mario vargas llosa that looked interesting,as well as a book on racism and one on the isles of the caribbean.

i also borrowed a novel recommended by the novelist tom robbins, whom i rather revere, called 'the death of vishnu' which touches on spiritual issues and you won't be surprised to hear is set in india.

driving home from the road trip of library/gas station/natural foods grocery/big chain grocery/drugstore for my favorite brand of floss,i heard morrissey's 'every day is like sunday',which made me laugh. today is definitely a very gray sunday, and i wish the sun had come out,but nevertheless sunday is my favorite day of the week,in spite of not being overly fond of the grocery store/grocery store/drugstore/gas station/laundry part of my sunday routine.i can do those things somewhat at my leisure, and i don't have to go to work tomorrow. at least until or unless my work schedule gets changed, anyway. hope it doesn't.

and that,i guess,is all i'm going to natter on about for now.

I could have SWORN I replaced your Smokey icon with his name with one that had no name on it. What happened?

Oh yeah and I have 'Death of Vishnu.' Not sure where it is, though, and I never read it.
