amen!

oprah: and you're hopeful for the planet?

archbishop tutu: oh,absolutely. our world is a work in progress.it's going to be okay.

what an amazing man. and he's saying this from the perspective of someone who has seen some pretty extreme stuff in his lifetime. he walks his talk as a follower of jesus (the term 'christian' is far too tainted to use!). this is from a wonderful short interview in the february issue of oprah's mag.

i'd say 'god, how could we possibly have sunk to such levels?' and then i'd hear a victim of such an atrocity say 'i am ready to forgive.' south africa has become a testament to the fact that people are fundamentally good.yes, there is evil. but it's not the norm. the norm is good.

amen to that!

Oh, I so agree, I love the man so dearly. His interview on the Daily Show a few months ago was amazing too (and those are short interviews!) and I recall writing about that in my LJ. He makes me proud to be an Anglican. :-)

I got to hear him speak last April when he came to a neighboring college.
He was really truly amazing. We all left the talk completely awed. Here was this man who had suffered so much, seen so many horrible things, and yet still honestly believed in all that is good and hopeful in humanity.
He was amazing.
