this is a prose poem that i really love that my sister sara aka
solarfields wrote for our mom--
If I could,
I would erase your last two years
because you did not really live them.
If I could,
I would let you laugh
hysterically at the lamest of my jokes,
twirl me around the house
in some joyous foolishness.
Because I still can,
I will remember the time
the sugar met the bacon
on the way to the table.
Even if your act was damsel in distress,
who would not want to rescue you?
For you were the Dollar Store Queen,
heroine of useless gizmos and gadgets.
You reigned over ragtime as it poured
through your fingers and onto the lawn,
your hands playing
the sound of a summer afternoon.
Even the most basic of your meals --
I mean hamburg thingies, please,
tasted gloriously like love.
If I could,
I would erase your last two years
because you did not really live them.
If I could,
I would let you laugh
hysterically at the lamest of my jokes,
twirl me around the house
in some joyous foolishness.
Because I still can,
I will remember the time

tasted gloriously like love.
