i'm the richest gal in town
i love my family.
i'm sitting here with a nice hot cup of ginger tea,it's raining outside, and i'm savoring the day, thinking of the warm and fun time i had today.
i had a great time, even without imbibingany very much chocolate.
one good thing about this development whereby regular consumption of chocolate makes me sick every time i eat,is that i've learned to not rely on it to be happy. i'm not happy all the time, but i have found that i am capable of being happy without chocolate. and i enjoy the chocolate that i do eat even more. i seem to be okay most of the time as long as i'm mostly a social chocolate-eater. and as for today, well, the mint(also a not-so-good thing for whatever it is that ails me) chocolate brownie and few pieces of chocolate fudge (which is pretty much my absolute favorite food treat) might just be worth feeling sick now and later. then again, maybe i won't get tooo sick. we'll see. i also noticed that i may be beginning to enjoy the main course and things that are better for me more...the carrots were absolutely wonderful,as was the stuffing. i had an extra big serving of carrots.
i had a really great time with my sisters (all but the eldest who lives near pittsburgh and came up for thanksgiving rather than christmas this year) and i wish i would do it more often. part of the reason i do this on christmas is that i usually have the day after off,so i feel i have some downtime afterward. the family gatherings make me tired, partly because i have to travel a bit and i'm not really that crazy about driving. my drive was pretty good on the way over today, though. most of the traffic was headed the other way. coming home,it was rainy and foggy, and the visibility was crappy, but i've driven in worse.
actually,i met up with my sisters sara and rachel at sara's place and then sara drives over to my sister michele's,which is where we went today. each drive is about 30-40 minutes each.
i hadn't seen my sister michele and her family since last christmas...we tried to get together once this year when i was on vacation but some other things came up for them.
we had a great meal. we exchanged presents. i got one gift that really cracked me up. my sister michele and her family gave me a framed, autographed picture of russ francis, who used to play for the patriots in the 70's. i used to have a picture of him ripped out of sports illustrated on my wall when i went off to college and i used to tell people he was my boyfriend. just being silly,of course. michele and i used to follow the patriots together in those days. she's still a huge patriots fan,but i'm not into it anymore. i'm just a baseball gal these days. but i've just gotta put this up on my wall somewhere where i see it every day and it'll make me smile. it was a great time of bonding for me and and my sister. she was 13 and i was 18 and had just left for college, but i was having a bit of a time adjusting,so i'd come home on weekends a lot. the family also gave me a copy of jerry remy's book 'watching baseball',which is cool.
my pennsylvania sister, lise, had left presents for us under the tree when she visited last month. i got a magnetic poetry calendar which should be fun to play with. my sister rachel gave me a pretty light green cotton shirt from the gap. i like gap stuff. my sister sara aka
solarfields gave many gifts this year in people's names...such as part of a cow,a pig, some tree seedlings and other gifts than are given to help people become self-sufficient.
my dad gave us christmas presents early this year. he gave each of us a good-sized check and i'm using mine to go toward buying a newer used car sometime in the coming months. he also gave all of us some boxes of chocolate. at the rate i eat and savor chocolate these days,i'll have enough for months! it's great.
my entire family is a gift to me every day. my dad and sisters are thoughtful and love me for me,and for that i am very grateful. their presence in my life is invaluable to me. it really strikes me when we all get together.
my sisters are also goofy, and we ended up dancing to my niece katie's wacky barbie fashion cd-rom music...this really spastic electronic tune. we should have been on american bandstand...or at least the bizarro world version of it. michele, rachel, sara, katie, melissa, josh and i all boogeying down. i think i saw my mom there too, giggling. after all,we got that goofiness from her. thanks, mom.
and merry christmas to everyone,no matter what your religion is. the birth of light is for all.
