if daleks scare you, bliss could be useful

last night i read two and a half chapters in john sutherland's book 'how to read a novel'. it's a fun book. it's a meta book. i love meta. i also read the first chapter in scarlett thomas's 'the end of mr. y'. that promises to be intriguing.

today at lunch i didn't read much. really,i just browsed through a couple of books on philosophy and copies of 'utne reader' and 'philosophy now'. i used to really like utne, but not so much these days. i've changed. the philosophy mag was mostly about wittginstein, whose name i've spelt wrong, but anyone who's philosophically inclined will know who i mean. i didn't read any of it,just flipped through.

tonight when i got home i had two doctor who discs from netflix. one is a third doctor story, and the other is the fourth, tom baker, called 'genesis of the daleks',so i started watching that. i'm fond of the daleks, which i know is a strange thing to say,but i hate their creator, davros!

just now i fired up my flist and i've only read one post, but it is excellent and i want to point the way to it if you are interested...entitled bliss is like a flak jacket wherein [livejournal.com profile] arianadii talks about a wonderful new book by david lynch that is optimistic and aria talks about joy and art. interesting that just yesterday i mentioned a book that intrigued me about how it became fashionable for artists to be miserable. i'd like to know how that happened,so i ordered the book, called 'born under saturn' but haven't seen it yet.

and now,i'm going to go wash dishes, brush and floss and check my wardrobe for tomorrow. then i'll probably watch more of 'genesis of the daleks' so not much reading today!
