eureka! i love ephiphanies/ahas/revelations!

you DO know that apocalypse means 'unveiling' or 'revelation' and is not the same as armageddon, don't you? in fact,i don't know how the dictionary defines 'armageddon' so i'll have to look that up,but i'm pretty sure it means war. having said that,i say bring on the apocalypse! anytime, anywhere. and i think they actually arrive in small doses every day if one cares to look.

so,my latest epiphany just occurred while pondering the fact that two films i recently loved--'the wild parrots of telegraph hill' and 'the story of the weeping camel' were both about animals and people together. which led me to remember that three of my favorite tv shows from my childhood, which have not appeared on dvd yet,are 'daktari' (a vet in africa), 'flipper',and 'maya' (a short-lived show about two boys and an indian elephant.

i've never really thought of myself as a huge animal-lover,and that's probably because i don't have any pets. but i don't have any children either and i love babies. and you know why i don't have either, and don't really want to? because they all require being taken care of and i don't even like taking care of myself. the latter of course is important as an adult,so i'm working on that. and i could have catholic or liberal or some other guilt for not wanting to take care of others. but it doesn't mean i don't like or love others, because i do. am i the only one who doesn't like taking care of others? hmmmm....so revelations bring more questions, but i love that because questions bring more answers, and i love both. and on and on...i like to think of life as an ascending spiral,as in susun weed's 'wise woman way'. (i wish she hadn't tagged it with a gender, but she does say that men have their 'inner woman'--it's just not satisfying to me to elevate men or women to the exclusion of the other, but that's just a preference on my part.)

i wonder if there is some community i could post this sort of query on as well as here...to anyone reading this, any suggestions? any thoughts on my questions?

It took the other three members of my family to beg me to have pets before I allowed it. My sister just gave me 4 plants as a thank you and all I can think about is not killing them.

Whenever we bring anything into our homes or realm of responsibility it is a committment.

For a long time I could barely take care of me and my kids. I didn't want anything else to be my responsibility at all. I think it's smart and responsible to say "no" to pets or kids or whatever you're not ready to take on. In fact, I bet a lot of people don't take on the additional responsibility.

Di... Sara just sent this to me to read cause she knew I just watched "The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill!" I swear I'm always in synch with you guys! :) Wasn't that wonderful and what a surprise ending too! Is "The Story of the Weeping Camel" good too or is it sad? You've got me curious yet I've never heard of it. You also mentioned "Maya" which I LOVED. The movie may be had on dvd or vhs but not the series and the series was great. I love the whole feel of it. ABout 10 years ago they showed it the series on TV every Saturday morning and that was great! :) Thanks for making me remember it today!
