slow/second life

is the internet slow or is my computer? trying to figure it out...i uninstalled real player and second life viewer thinking that might help. well,i'm a computer noobie,what can i say? second life was really frustrating and may not be worth the time to figure out. from what i could gather,it seemed like a glorified chatroom. i don't like chatrooms because it seems like people never talk about anything. haha.
