oh boyd OR boyd of the rings
do you ever fall for people who don't exist? i do.
sometimes it's books,sometime movies.
i suppose tv characters as well, but i don't have cable and i only get one channel,so that hasn't happened in a while.
of COURSE i had a crush on scotty from star trek.that practically goes without saying. the only thing/person i don't like that's scottish is haggis. and, well,i've never tried it so...
there was a character named will in the flambards trilogy by e.m. peyton.
of course now that i've brought up this subject my mind is going blank.
ah,hamish campbell in 'braveheart'. again, obvious. his dad wasnt bad either (redheads!)
murdoch in titanic...damn,i can't get away from the scots. oh,well...ha.
many times i like a character and i think i like the actor but it's really just the character. of course there are exceptions (ewan mcgregor! if you think his acting is bad in phantom menace it's because the character's lines were lousy)
lots of good acting in lord of the rings,my current obsession...though i must say so far, even though he LOOKS really good, the character of legolas hasn't been given much personality. whether that is due to the writing or the acting will be more obvious once i see the two towers.
when i read the books years ago,my favorite character was legolas.i didn't like frodo all that much, but rather liked merry and pippin. for one thing, they had the best names! i even know of a little girl named pippin so named by her hippie dad.
well, speaking of hobbits,i was impressed with the acting of the hobbits and so i rented 'rudy' with sean astin today. well, then i ended up crying all afternoon and evening.
in the afternoon, because of the movie...it was a bit overdone, but it's cool that it's a true story and very inspiring because of that. it reminded me of the ending of 'mystery alaska' which was also inspiring in a nontypical way. it's all about having heart.
the rest of the crying was due to talking to my eldest sister who lives in pennsylvania but is vacationing this week in virginia (while i 'vacation' here at home taking care of mom, except for today, when she was with my baby sister). anyway,we got things sorted out but i was a bit annoyed at some of the things she said. for instance, she said they have 'no room'. they live in a four bedroom house and have twin four year olds. hmmm, how many bedrooms do they need? anyway...when we talked about paying someone to care for mom,i said 'we don't have any money' and she sharply replied 'do you think we do?' hmmmm....i think she's got more than the other four of us. her husband is an engineer, makes good money and the mortgage they pay on their house is the same as i pay by myself on $17,000 a year for this apartment.
well,whatever...i actually said it as including here initially, though her reaction made me think twice.
she suggested i ask my sister who's husband is having chemotherapy soon and who has three children,if she could have mom stay with her. i had totally ruled that out under the circumstances.
as it turns out,i got an email from the sister who has the three kids and the husband with cancer and she is going to have mom at her house during the week, but she will be here with me so she can have some family time.i think this is more than she should have to do,but with my other sister not offering more, she feels she has no choice. therefore,my "days off' will be even more jammed packed for me...as mom won't be driving anymore and will have to be monitored on the taking of her 7 or so medications.(i'm going to have fun keeping up with that!) i am not the least bit annoyed with my sister wanting time with her family,i am annoyed with the eldest for not helping more.
and...when my brother-in-law has chemo my sister will not be able to take care of my mother as she will be taking care of her husband as well as her three kids. SHE should be getting some help at that time, and i told her i will do what i can,and to ask if there is anything i can help with.
this will probably be happening very soon. his recovery will probably take at least six weeks.
anyway,back to happier thoughts.
my favorite hobbit is of course pippin the glaswegian hobbit. the actor who plays pippin, billy boyd, has quite an amusing website and he seems like an exceptionally nice person and witty too...there really aren't any other movies to see him in available around here. i think he's done a lot of theatre and tv. he's in a movie called 'urban ghost story' but i haven't seen that in the video store and since his role is 'loan shark' i don't imagine he has a very big role in that.heh.
however,he is going to be in a movie made from a patrick o'brian book...i just know they have ships on the covers,so they must be about the sea,the navy or something. he plays a character named barret bonden,i think. how appropriate, billy boyd as barrett bonden...i think i could twist my tongue on that! uh,what next, billy budd?

i agree about the interaction. folks on the internet are also possibly someone you may meet. i have two friends who met their husbands via the internet, for instance. i've never met a 'character' though i have met some characters.
