teeth and money and funky immune system that attacks my thyroid

my new dentist kindly gave me a free consult on wednesday.i have no dental insurance, because i'm on medicare, can't afford a supplemental program and get too much ssdi for medicaid. new hampshire is really bad with the medicaid. anyway, i explained my situation, and she helped me to set up some kind of plan to save as many of my teeth as possible on a limited budget. in an ideal world,i should get 6 crowns, which are about 1200 each,i think. since i have an income of 12,000 a year, that's not gonna happen. so i am starting with one filling, and get as much done as i can when i can, which really isn't much. but as one of my favorite mantras goes,it could be worse. i was heartened by her taking the time to figure things out with me and not charging for her time of that consultation. i have to figure out how to pay two hundred dollars for that filling sometime in january.

also, since my thyroid was low a couple of years ago and i wanted to wait to see if my hormones adjusted themselves after menopause before starting a med that could be tricky to regulate since i probably have hashimoto's...thyroid bouncing too low and too high due to autoimmune dysregulation...i should go have it tested and also tested for the antibodies for hashimoto's to know for sure if i have it. so,i need to find out how much i will have to pay for the consult, and the tests ahead of time. even though i pay a monthly premium for medicare (i mistakenly thought the money taken out of my paychecks over the years covered that, but it doesn't and i haven't had the energy to apply for food stamps and a subsidy for that since i was cut off for getting a small amount of money when my dad died and i put it into a health care trust last spring). anyway, blah blah blah.

recently my building, where i rent a condo, switched from propane to natural gas. i guess it is supposed to be cheaper, but the natural gas people charge a minumum of about twenty bucks a month, all during the year, even when you don't use any. i get fuel assistance, but that means i have to pay the twenty dollar fee for all those months when i don't get fuel assistance, and twenty bucks is a lot to add to my monthy budget.

and yet,and yet,i am blessed. it doesn't make me feel better that there are plenty of people poorer than i am though.

Seems half of everyone I know these days are having dental issues with insurance issues to boot. Sucks. :(

Feel better and good luck with the diagnosis!
