the earth moved
it was kinda fun.
last night i was sitting on the end of my bed,and well, for a half-second, it shook weirdly. it reminded me of the time i was shaken awake early in the morning, and my bed just shook for several seconds and that was pretty bizarre. i thought that the aliens were hassling me or something. well, that turned out to be a smallish earthquake centered in upstate new york, but big enough for us to feel it here. that was less than a year ago.
but,i thought, nah. it's probably just that they're throwing the furniture around in the apartment above,as they often do. (well,at least it always sounds like it.) i thought it a little bit strange that it should shake my bed that much though.
anyway,it was mentioned on the news last night that folks in this town and a few surrounding towns had that they had heard an explosion. some folks thought it might be a 'sonic boom' though i'm not really sure what that is or what could cause it (but you can be sure i'll be looking it up on google!). i do realize that sound is very powerful and i'm sure can even kill. plus, supposedly our bodies are 'electrical' in some way so all sorts of things affect us...some day i think they'll find how bad cell phones are for us,for instance, sort of like second hand smoke.anyway,i wont get into that topic right now!
according to the news today,it was a small earthquake,2.6 on the richter, centered in the town i live in. apparently it was only felt in a few surrounding towns and i guess at that magnitude,it's the lowest that can be felt. it really wasn't much, but it is strange to think it ORIGINATED right here. i heard some commentary that this area is prone to earthquakes, but i find that rather strange. this is only the third one i've felt in my entire life of living in this area for 44 years.
