i've got the picnic if you've got the ants
i just dug out a limited edition cd of r.e.m.'s stuff and am listening to an alternative take of gardening at night which was on their first ep.
(reminds me that i loaned my copy of 'dead letter office' which includes the chronic town ep to my friend michael a long long time ago...and maybe one of these days i'll get it back...and,oops,i have one of his cds as well...)
man, they were kick-ass rock and rollers! it has so much energy,if i ever feel sluggish,i just put on their earlyish stuff and it's better than coffee! i have quite a few of their early bootlegs, which are great...same goes for u2,though i like u2's current stuff more than r.e.m.'s latest...so bill retired to become a farmer, and i don't blame him after having a brain aneurism to decide to do what HE wanted...but get a new drummer already! you can't play rock and roll without a drummer. or maybe they're just too old to rock any more, but that's bull because they're (and i) are 15 years younger than the stones who are still playing rock and roll.
and i still listen to rock and roll more often than i listen to mellow stuff...
'i've got the picnic if you've got the ants...'....from 'burnin' hell',r.e.m.'s hilarious pop metal song...
i'm afraid that r.e.m. are going to get shrouded in obscurity and that would be a shame. i've listened to a hell of a lot of music over the years and i still think they're one of the best, live and on record.
i miss bill. i hope he had a good pumpkin crop...uh,do they grow pumpkins in georgia?

R.E.M. gave the best concert I've ever been to (in Seattle, in about '99). Think "At My Most Beautiful" is my current favorite, though "Fall on Me" reigned for quite a while.

i heard 'fall on me' the first time when seeing them in '85...i loved it immediately.i love the three part harmony. i'd say 'lifes rich pageant' is probably my favorite album of theirs, and to my dismay today i couldnt find it! i've either lost it or sadly it's possible it was stolen. oh,well.

Hope you find your Life's Rich Pageant. 'Tis a good one indeed. (Though, heck, they all are.)
