i wish chocolate and i got along!

i need to try not to eat chocolate today, even though i have a huge box of chocolates my dad gave me for christmas,a third of a box of fudge i bought for myself because i love fudge and my mother is in a nursing home so she wasn't going to make any this year,a little chocolate cake with chocolate frosting that my boss gave me for christmas, and a box of chocolate chip cookies and a couple of brownies left over from when eating chocolate didn't ruin my stomach and/or my esophagus. in other words,i'm surrounded! but if i resist for a few days,i won't feel sick after every meal.

it's a sad thing, but for some people, including obviously me,certain foods (chocolate, mint, cinnamon, and more) relax the valve that keeps acid from going from your stomach to your esophagus, which doesn't have the protective lining that the stomach has,and so can get damaged and it hurts when acid gets in there. as it is,i take a strong stomach medication that cuts down my stomach acid, but what i really need to do (especially since i'd like to some day get off this medication) is stop eating those things that do that, and i'm really addicted to chocolate. it's got lots of good happy chemicals in it. the nurse practioner i go to said that i should try to go for 30 days without chocolate so that it gets completely out of my system and will give my esophagus a chance to heal.i just havent' been able to stay away from chocolate for more than a few days. when i feel low,i want chocolate, and i'm rather moody. actually, with this medication i've been okay with having chocolate
as long as it's not every day,but lately because of christmas and goodies everywhere in your face at work, etc.,i've had chocolate every day and it's happened...so i know why i get discomfort after every meal right now...it's not the actual things i eat at any one mealtime,it's the fact that acid is getting into my esophagus any time i produce stomach acid. lovely, isn't it? and lately i've been having low blood sugar attacks in the evening which is kind of weird...i don't know if it's got something to do with hypoglycemia or diabetes and i probably should have a fasting blood sugar test done one of these days...my mom is diabetic, her sister was diabetic and my dad has diabetes when he puts on too much weight. if he keeps his weight down, his blood sugar is fine. anyway,i'm guessing these low blood sugar episodes (varying degrees of unpleasantness...sometimes short bouts of acute nausea,a bit of dizziness, headache, and general overall wobbly feeling) are because i've been eating even more sugar than usual lately, and i'm always thinking i should try to cut down on sweets, but when i'm trying not to eat chocolate,i eat more sugar trying to get that fix to feel better.

oh,well.fun fun fun.
