light and dark
i'm totally immersed in 'the lucifer principle' by howard bloom. i may dig up someone else's review of it later, but i'll just say it's sociobiology (a subject that in the past year or so has totally enthralled me) and about the dark side of mother nature. lots of it is kind of scary and yet ultimately (well,i'm a little over half done but i did read the last chapter to see what his basic conclusions were) it's hopeful. amazing, amazing stuff...my mind would be blown, but since mentally i'm one of the most adventurous people i know (even if i'm a whimpering coward half the time when dealing with the physical and emotional aspects of being a human being),it isn't quite. i won't say i've heard it all,but i've heard/read a LOT.
i'm listening to the wonderful album 'homefree' by dan fogelberg. i didn't notice this when i was younger, but he's weak in the lyric department.(men...men are weak) in fact, some of the lyrics make me cringe if i think about them too much. but the MUSIC...well,he is very gifted there. beautiful stuff. and since sound is primary in my music appreciation,it overrides any of my perceived lack in the lyrics.
p.s. i don't know if he ever addresses this, but i wonder if howard bloom realizes (i suspect he must,he seems extremely intelligent, but then again einstien couldn't remember his own phone number) that he named the principle of the dark side of mother nature with a name that means 'light-bringer'(lucifer...prefix lu...think of lucid,luminescent,etc...makes me think of the celtic god lugh of lughnasa fame/lack of fame...wonder if there's any connection there? another thing for my research list...)
