shall we talk about the weather?

'well the first of december was covered with snow/so was the turnpike from stockbridge to boston'-james taylor,'sweet baby james'

substitute the sixth of january and you've pretty much got the picture. it really is gorgeous. it's been too cold and/or cloudy to melt much, plus it's been snowing about every other day,so we've got lots of picturesque snow (think postcard or calendar new england sans the white church with steeple...we don't have one of those here...and you've pretty much got the picture). it's also making me thinking alternately of the movie mystery, alaska (love that movie...my favorite part is near the end) and my childhood, where the snow was often way over our heads and we built some great snow forts. oh,and one year,we even had sled-dog races one year...yes,in new hampshire. it worked out really well simply by not plowing the roads and/or dumping snow on them...i can't remember which they did. it was really cool, nevertheless.

yes,it does suck to drive in storms in the winter. last week i had five separate commutes that were, shall we say, challenging, not so much due to slippery snow(i drive slow so in case i do slide i don't do much damage or none as long as there's enough room between me and the next car...i always leave space but the other often don't...i mean,i'm not going to do much harm hitting a snowbank at 25-30 mph and i'm not driving on a mountain)but because of idiots who drive fast and then fishtail in the snow...kind of dangerous when you're sharing the road with them.

anyhow,we had another bit of snow last night,so the trees have fresh snow on them. and i'm planning to leave soon to visit my mother in the nursing home about 30 miles away before we get more snow this afternoon, though i can drive in it though i prefer not to.
