opium!
the bad news is that i had yet another (#3,not that i'm counting) nearly sleepless night spent in pain. and that right now i feel like an iron spike has been driven through my left cheek, eye and forehead, and i know the tylenol i just took isn't going to help much.
the good news is that i got in to see a doctor this afternoon. it was a doctor i hadn't seen before, but he seemed nice enough (though he rushed me more than the two female doctors usually do...but i just asked all my questions all that much faster) and he has a scottish name,so it's all good. of course the best thing is that he prescribed something for the freakin' pain. it was going to either be tylenol with codeine, which sounded fun...or vicodin, which is tylenol with some kind of opiate (opiate sounds good to me!). well, since i had never had codeine before,he didn't want to chance it because it might upset my stomach. after all, that's why i've had to endure this pain for five days...i can't take most painkillers because of my stomach.
so he prescribed the vicodin, which i can only take at night because, after all,it's an opiate,so i can't very well drive and work if i'm taking that.so i have to deal with the useless tylenol during the day,but maybe at least i'll sleep. i've forgotten what sleep is like. i'm sure it'll be pleasant. however, the info i got from the pharmacy says if the vicodin upsets your stomach, you can take it with food. er,great. i'm only taking this at night, and i can't go to bed less than three hours after eating (not to mention that i have to spend 15-20 minutes brushing and flossing anytime i eat ANYTHING,because my teeth are apparently that weak...even if it's a couple of crackers) so how is that going to work? well,it MIGHT not upset my stomach...the dr. didn't mention that it would...but even if it does,i can probably sleep better with a bad stomach than with this horrible pain in my face and head.
and also,he prescribed an antibiotic, which i haven't taken in over twenty years since i had bell's palsy when i was in my last year of college, because he thinks i have a sinus infection. he didn't seem to know for certain, but was pretty sure. that seems kind of weird to me,but whatever. i just want drugs and relief at this point, and was practically ready to sell my soul. oh,dear,i'm so weak. strange...i've never had a sinus infection before. i guess i've been lucky.
also, since i ended up getting an appointment in the afternoon,i was still able to have lunch with dad.
okay, what else? i just call to cancel my mom's cable subscription,so now i'm back to no tv...but i really wasn't interested in watching much of anything. mostly, the few times i sat down in front of the tv,i either fell asleep or couldn't get up out of the chair...it put me in a bizarre, immobile trance. neither of which made me feel too great. at least i still had the cable so i could tape the wb special on the two towers last december, because that's a blast.
can't wait to take some drugs and hopefully get some sleep tonight! yeah!

anyway,it said i could take one or two every four to six hours but i took just one and it did the trick. pain pretty much gone away, and i know it helped because after six hours the pain returned...ouch! the antibiotic should be doing it's stuff too soon so i won't have to take too much. believe me,i am so relieved. thanks for your note!
oh,and it didn't make me sleepy. i took a while to fall asleep, but then because it took away the pain i slept well.
it's funny how people react differently to medication, but i guess our chemical compositions vary!
