bizarre love triangle
i got the new order four cd box set called 'retro'. it's got singles,b-sides,live stuff and remixes.
i forgot how much i loved this band, and i've never quite been able to figure out why, because they're not the typical type of band i like.(i'm classed as an r.e.m./u2 kind of girl, though i like a very wide spectrum of music)
i always liked bernard's voice. so very ordinary, and maybe not technically considered a great voice. but i think frank sinatra is boring.
so...
me happy.

neworder is one of those bands that sorta transcends tendancies i think.

I've adored New Order since about 1985. They've always made music that was unpretentious -- and so it often veers off into dorkiness, but it always feels genuine.
Their "comeback" album Get Ready was really excellent, if you haven't picked it up I recommend it.

get ready
Re: get ready
Many of their guitarsy songs on past albums were good but never wound up on "compilation" tapes because they sounded a bit too naive compared to other music. That's not true of the songs on Get Ready, and it's like they finally got all of their different voices to work together instead of going off in different directions.
You could call it New Order's Abbey Road, only I certainly hope it doesn't turn out to be their last album...
