shall we talk about the weather? lo lo lo

from msn news:
In the Atlanta area, 117 schools either didn't open or delayed
classes Friday, not because of any snow or ice but due to the bitter cold. School officials feared children would end up waiting in the cold for stalled buses.

Atlanta saw a low of 8 degrees Friday morning, with a wind chill of minus 10 degrees.

ohmigod,if i hadn't had to go to school every time we had a high wind chill factor,i never would have gotten an indoctrination education.

but then again,i'm a new englander, and i really do think your blood or something does adjust to cold and heat in turn,or maybe it's just psychological.

i'm such a smug bitch sometimes, but i'm not the only one. my friend mark was laughing because north carolina got a foot of snow and i said 'well, they'll all be staying home for weeks'. anyway, the southerners can laugh at us when we die of the heat in summer...but then again, most of them have air conditioners! and a foot of snow is a LOT for here too,so it must be pretty bad for them. they don't have the experience of winter driving (not that it helps some of the dodo brains that live HERE) and they dont have the budgets or equipment for snow removal we do.

and yes,it's been pretty cold. my car has been grumpy lately. it makes a moaning sound when i start it,but at least so far it HAS started. anyway,it's supposed to warm up here in a day or two,all the way UP to the freezing mark,if we're lucky!

the wind chill here yesterday was -25 degrees. i'm just glad i'm not in canada (except for vancouver!) or iceland or...

heh,
Well, I just happen to live in Atlanta and have very thin southern blood:) It is just too cold and we really are not used to it. Here things are not "winter proofed". Also I work in a Greenhouse and we were running around like headless chickens to get everything ready just so we could maintain temperatures. There is a reason that North Carolina (except the Mtns) shuts down for a few inches of snow. They don't have adequate trucks and supplies to handle it. I drove yesterday from Raleigh to Atlanta. The roads were terrible and very dangerous. By the time I made it to Charoltte at 4pm it took me an hour just to get from the North side to the South side. The roads were solid ice and there were accidents and abandoned cars. In fact I lost count of how many abandoned cars there were. I'll take 100F and 99% humidity on a hot July afternoon any day. Stay warm;)
