soul music

no one else sounds like new order.
i always thought it odd that i liked them, but then i figured i just liked the best of the 'electronic' stuff from the eighties, and to me,the best were new order and howard jones.

i haven't had luck with someone saying 'oh,you'll like them,they sound like r.e.m/the beatles/u2.'

no,i dont' want to listen to bands that allegedly 'sound like' another band i like.i like bands because they are true to their soul*...whatever they happen to sound like.

*and to my mind, bands are synergetic entities themselves...which is why it can never be repeated in exactly the same way. which is why i still miss bill being in r.e.m.

on the Bill comparison front...

New Order was a great band, but they always were so much less for me than was Joy Division.

howdy, i just randomly wandered by (by which i mean it wasn't random at all because i saw your post in the geeks_unite community about office supplies and i am crrrrrraaaaazy about office supplies, it's realy quite sad because just being in an office supply store relaxes me and puts a smile on my face) aaaaaaaanyway, there was that, and then here you are with your post about liking New Order and i love them too :) i was just listening to Crystal the other day and remembering how the first time i heard it on the radio, i thought to myself, "new order just sounds like nobody else..."

right. that was long. my appologies. just wanted to say hi :)
