bridges and flowers

geez, listen to that drums/tambourines bridge towards the end of new order's 'run wild' from the lovely 'get ready' cd...

i think that's called a bridge...an instrumental bit between choruses or verses. i also like the intro bridge to wings' 'band on the run' (guitar) and the bridge of elevating notes in r.e.m.'s 'flowers of guatamala'*...

i get really swoony about music sometimes...certain SOUNDS. mmmmm....

*which i long ago chose as a song for my funeral...but i've begun to rethink it since if my family realized that amanita is a psychedelic mushroom that's considered the basis for the legendary 'soma'...they might get the wrong idea. i love it because it's beautiful,a little bit sad and the bridge, where the notes go higher and higher, make me think of a soul ascending on a staircase...plus the line 'the flowers cover everything'. i love flowers (i'm a flower child,ha ha ha) and i'd love to give flowers to those who survive me,rather than them giving them to ME when i'm gone...of course, giving flowers other than at funerals is good too. and the best flowers are probably those that don't get picked...a field of wildflowers...what could be more beautiful? and sometimes when all hope is lost and i think god is missing...sometimes the only way to have a sense that god is still there is in the breeze,in the grandfatherly and grandmotherly big trees,in the sweet fields of flowers...the thorns that have roses...sometimes i hate life so much and i don't want to...and i hate that life is so painful for so many. i wish we all could have more moments when a flower can make us smile.

the flowers often bloom at night...'

You reminded me of the first time I ever got flowers. The woman who gave them to me is still a very good friend. I had invited her and her daughter over for dinner. And she brought me flowers. I was so deeply touched. I love giving flowers, but secretly I love receiving them more. Someone wants to show me how much they love me, all they have to do is send me flowers.
