leaf blowers and mix tapes

i was going to write about how much i hate leaf blowers,but...maybe another day. oh,don't look so disappointed.

topic of the moment: mixed tapes.

i think i'm going to make myself a new mixed tape soon. my current favorite mixed tape is at least two years old i think. it's not that it's outdated, because most of the music i like (well, that i know of,since i don't have much money for new stuff) is not recent anyway. but i've listened to this tape A LOT and i want some fresh tunes. i listen to tapes in my car sometimes when i can't find anything i want to listen to on the radio,or just when i want to hear my own selection of favorites.i don't have a cd player in my car. in fact, this is the first car i've had with a tape deck. the first car i owned didn't even have a radio! (i used to sing to amuse myself on trips to visit the family...that was when i didn't live with them! ah,memories...) my second car had only a.m. radio, which is pretty much the same as no radio. during the years i owned that car,i took a couple of trips to upstate new york, which takes about four hours. by then,i had rigged up a walkman and some portable battery powered speakers for a sound system in my car. my third car have f.m. radio, but no tape deck. it was pure grace that seablue had one...i just needed a reliable not-too-expensive used car!
however,at work i can't play my wonderful collection of tapes because there isn't a tape deck. i'm wondering if my friend emy at work can make a cd from a tape? she's offered to burn cds for me before, and i may take her up on it for one item.

this is what is on that well-used tape:
touched-v.a.s.t.
at my most beautiful-r.e.m.
i will follow-u2
the one i love-r.e.m.
it's the end of the world as we know it (and i feel fine)-r.e.m.
revolution earth-b-52's
roam-b-52's
i'll be you-replacements
dancing barefoot-u2
(that's one of my favorite all-time tunes.it's by patti smith and i love her version of it just as much.)
ghost-indigo girls
name-goo goo dolls
mummer's dance-loreena mckennitt

i like this tape MUCH better than the sound of a leaf blower and other noisy yard equipment, one of which woke me out of a sound sleep this morning, when i was dreaming of chocolate bars. no kidding...now that i hardly ever eat chocolate,i dream about it!

Good Tunes and a Suggestion

I hear you. I've had several cars like that as well. In fact, I had a car that ate tapes. YUM! BURP!

If you are interested in technological gadgetry as I am, then I recommend investing in a Creative Labs mp3 player. You can load it up with more songs than you could ever imagine (up to 6GB worth) and set it on random play. They are relatively inexpensive and portable.
