all you need is love-let it be

yummy.

wanted some fresh, vibrant music to listen to and ended up with the beatles no.1 collection from a couple of christmases ago...

i have most of the beatles stuff on vinyl...up to the red and blue collections and rock and roll and love songs collections...because i already had the stuff on 'em. i use to earn a few dollars (and i'm talking FEW...anywhere from 5 to 8 dollars. i had this saturday clerical job that i hated but the people i worked for were nice. i hated getting up on saturday morning and going to work. this was in my high school days.i would ride my bike over which was fun on the way over, because it was mostly downhill, but not so fun on the way home. if i was lucky (since i hated the job and preferred to have less money rather than spend the time being there...hmmm...i haven't changed much except now i really NEED money and just basic needs like housing costs so much and my wages are low...anyway) i only had to work from 9-12 but if there was a lot of work i had to go back after lunch in the afternoon. i also had to dress up a bit for this job, which i also hated.

well,so back to the beatles. an lp used to cost about five dollars. so i would save my money and i slowly collected beatles albums. i have a sentimental attachment to the american versus the british ones and of course the american versions are not what's on cd. i never did switch over to cassettes with my collection. i only have 'let it be' for some reason. lots of folks think abbey road is a masterpiece and maybe so,but i like let it be better. one of my favorite songs is on there...across the universe...though i used to listen to it when i was sad and felt lonely. then there's 'two of us'
(aimee mann did a cover for a recent soundtrack for that movie, you know the one with sean penn as a retarded parent and it has all the beatles covers? duh, can't think of the name...) which i love. it reminds me of my high school boyfriend. sweet.

uh,so...i have only a few beatles cds...i think rubber soul is my favorite beatles album (though i like the AMERICAN version better...ha) and my friend michael bought me that for my birthday a couple of years ago, proclaiming that it was the superior british version of the lp...

well,i was very excited to get a copy of 'one' because i dont have a version of 'ticket to ride' on anything on cd,and that's one of my favorites...the guitar riff... mmmmhmmmm.

so this morning i popped it into my cd player and...was disappointed. because this cd was remastered (my friend george was saying how wonderful that was) in MONO and i don't have a mono setting on my receiver. merde. my stereo system sounds sooo good...if the recording is in stereo. so i ended up putting the cd on my portable cd player/cassette/boom box thingie, because the speakers are close together and it sounds better. but it doesn't sound as good as it could on my regular stereo system! a lot of purists claim that mono is a better recording mode or whatever, and maybe it is...but i can't tell without a mono setting! my old receiver has that, but it's not hooked up. i haven't been using it because my turntable broke and i borrowed a receiver/turntable thingie from a friend who wasnt using it. my plan was/has been to put some of my vinyl on tape. i've been slowly weeding out my vinyl collection because vinyl is so heavy and it's a pain when you're moving! of course some things i can't part with...for the jackets or just the sentimental value.

but....the music is so good i got over my disappointment damned fast. i just love the beatles. the music makes me happy. still gorgeous and amazing after all these years...

I love "Two of Us" too, it's my favorite song on Let it Be (although I could say that "I Me Mine" is tied in that position). the movie you're trying to think of is I am Sam...I enjoyed that a lot more than I thought I would, Sean Penn did a wonderful acting job in it. I did wonder why they wouldn't just use the original Beatles songs, but oh well.

my favorite Beatles album is Revolver. I think it gets overlooked because some people see it as an extension of Rubber Soul...that's nothing derrogatory, by any means, as Rubber Soul is a masterpiece in its own right...but I love every single song on Revolver and I can't say that about White Album or Help! or Hard Day's Night, which are my other favorites. plus Revolver was my first Beatles album, so it has a lot of sentimental value.

hehe...hearing you talk about the American/British versions of the LPs reminds me of my dad...he wanted to get the Yank LP Meet the Beatles but they don't have it on CD. I think they should put both versions out, myself...what's the harm in it?
